Gianfranco Ferré FW1992 Suede & Leather Wrap Trousers – Grey & Black
Rare Gianfranco Ferré Fall/Winter 1992 trousers in charcoal grey suede and black leather, built around an unusual wrap construction and oversized utility pockets.
The body is cut from soft, matte suede in a deep grey-brown tone, falling into a relaxed straight leg with a substantial weight and fluidity. At the waist, contrasting black leather forms a wide wraparound waistband, extending into long self-tie straps that knot at the front and define the silhouette without a conventional belt.
Two oversized suede patch pockets sit prominently at either hip, extending outward from the body and giving the trousers an almost apron-like construction. Black leather panels appear beneath the waistband at the upper hips, creating a sharp tonal and textural contrast against the suede. The combination of oversized pockets, wrapped leather waist and elongated proportions gives the piece a distinctly architectural quality characteristic of Ferré’s early 1990s work.
Worn with a simple fitted tank or fine knit tucked into the waist, allowing the unusual construction and material contrast to remain entirely visible.
A pair of trousers that approaches leather and suede less as surface decoration than as a way of constructing the silhouette itself.
